Businesses should be highly concerned with their data privacy policies because it is more important today than ever before.
Recent Privacy Examples
- Alphabet was recently asked by shareholders for a Report on Data Collection, Privacy, and Security which stresses the fundamental importance of online privacy. The proposal shows: Internet media companies collect, use, and store substantial amounts of user data and track user behavior across online platforms, creating significant financial, legal, regulatory, and reputational risks, should those data be improperly collected, misused, or accessed by unauthorized parties (6/22).
Shareholder Impact On Privacy Resolutions
- In 2022, 50.04% of Apple shareholders voted for a Report on Company Risks through Use of Concealment Clauses. Concealment Clauses are any employment or post-employment agreement the company can ask employees or contractors to sign which would limit their ability to discuss unlawful acts in the workplace, including harassment and discrimination. This was a milestone as it has been 10 years since Apple investors passed a shareholder proposal (3/22).
